“I was introduced to the game of cricket in my first year in Achimota School, and it has been
my favourite sport ever since. I participated in all three interhouse competitions during my
stay in Cadbury House and won the competition in my final year, when I captained the team,
scoring a century in the tournament. I also participated in the annual
Kings/Queens/Achimota games, travelling to Nigeria in my second year. I looked forward to
playing cricket in university, as it was to be a new challenge, combining it with a difficult
course of study. I further participated in cricket activities at the University of Ghana.”
As the Secretary for the Foundation, Dr. Afutu seeks to support of the Foundation to inspire
many young people to take up the game of cricket, not only as a recreational activity, but as a
sport which when developed, can change the landscape of sporting in Ghana
